My name is Nikki Garcia, RVT, and I have spent the last decade in diagnostic medical sonography. Alongside my clinical career, I have dedicated myself to healthcare advocacy, working with organizations such as Be The Match, St. Baldrick’s Foundation, and United Blood Services. Representing New Mexico as Mrs. New Mexico International gave me a national platform to advocate for patients and communities. I have also had the opportunity to live abroad and host exchange students—experiences that broadened my perspective on culture, service, and the importance of giving back.
But the profession I love is at a breaking point. Sonographers face overwhelming workloads, unsafe conditions, and a lack of recognition — issues that directly impact both providers and patients. I founded the National Sonography Organization (NSO) because I believe every Sonographer deserves to be protected, valued, and respected.
Behind the NSO is a dedicated, Sonographer-led team from across the country. These are seasoned professionals — many with decades of experience across various modalities — united by a shared mission to protect and improve the field we are passionate about. Some have even been forced to leave the profession due to career-related injuries, underscoring the urgency of our advocacy.
Together, this team brings firsthand knowledge of the realities Sonographers face and an unwavering commitment to driving meaningful change. While their identities remain confidential to protect them from workplace retaliation, their experiences and expertise guide every step of NSO’s mission.
